Annual Awards Ceremonies
In recognition of outstanding accomplishments by students, a number of award
ceremonies occur throughout the school year:
Commencement recognizes those students who have successfully
completed their diplomas, as well as those who have excelled academically.
The Athletic Banquet honours those students who have assisted
their teams and programs with spirit, dedication, commitment and outstanding
play.
The Arts Gala recognizes outstanding and creative achievement
in Music, Visual Arts and Drama.
The Awards Assembly in Semester One recognizes those students
who have excelled in individual courses and those who have earned recognition
on the Honour Roll. The requirements for Honour Roll Standing for Grade 9 to
Grade 12 are as follows:
- Any student who has achieved 80% or over in a school year will receive
recognition on the Honour Roll.
- A student must have the following number of courses in each school year
to be eligible:
Grade 9, 10 & 11 - eight courses; Grade 12 - six courses (where a student
obtains more than six credits in grade 12, the highest marks will be used).
- When a student has achieved an 80% average for the first time in a school
year, he/she will be awarded an Enamel Honour Roll Pin - to be presented at
the first school assembly in September.
- When a student has achieved an 80% average for four consecutive years,
of which a minimum of two have been at Our Lady of Lourdes, he/she will be
awarded the Honour Roll prestigious Gold Pin Award.
The requirements for the Ontario Scholarship Program are as follows:
- A student who obtains an aggregate of at least 480 marks in any combination
of Ministry approved courses that provide a total of six credits. Ministry-approved
courses are any Grade 12 university preparation, university/college preparation,
and/or college preparation courses authorized under OSS and any Ontario
Academic Courses (OACs) authorized under OSIS.
- The student has been recommended by the school principal for the Ontario
Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) in either the current school year or the
previous school year.
The Major Awards Assembly in June recognizes those students
who have excelled in citizenship, leadership and improvement.
The Lourdes Letter represents a high degree of achievement
in all areas of school life. School Letters will be awarded at the end of each
school year to those students who have accumulated points from participation
in the following four areas: Civics, Academics, Community Clubs, Athletics.
There are two School Letters: Junior (Blue): 100 points and Senior (Gold): 200
points. The school will maintain an individual's total points.
Attendance and Dress Code Awards
At the end of each semester, students having excellent attendance and/or dress
code records will receive Award Certificates recognizing their achievement.
These certificates will be mailed home with the report cards.
